Shows will be V good, says organiser

V Festival organiser Dawn Woodhouse today looked forward to this year's star-studded event at Weston Park in Staffordshire.

V 2009 will be headlined by Oasis and The Killers, quashing rumours about the recently reformed Blur playing.

Dawn said: "It would be great to have them both on the bill but Blur made their decision to headline Glastonbury, which is a huge festival.

"We are very happy with Oasis and The Killers and are confident that the festival will sell out in record time again this year."

Tickets for this summer's event on August 22 and 23 go on sale at 10am on Friday. Last year's festival took a mere 90 minutes to sell out.

Saturday night at Weston Park will see Mercury Prize winners Elbow followed by Snow Patrol and Oasis on the V Stage, while Sunday will see The Specials and Razorlight proceed The Killers.

A poll carried out by festival organisers saw Oasis, The Killers and Razorlight all coming top in fans' ideal line ups – a wish fulfilled by festival staff.

"We asked what bands people would like to see," said Dawn. "Both The Killers and Oasis have headlined before and the fans want them back."

Coventry's ska legends The Specials returned to the music scene last year to celebrate their 30th anniversary with a surprise appearance at Bestival in the Isle of Wight.

They have reformed minus founder member Jerry Dammers and have gone on to sell out upcoming tour dates all over the country.

"The Specials is also a big name we have this year," continued Dawn. "They have a poll on their website at the moment where you can vote for songs you'd like to hear and Ghost Town is number one so they might play that.

"I remember I was only 10 when Gangsters came out so I feel a bit old now. It's amazing that a band that has been away for so long can sell out so many dates."

The festival set-up and Weston Park layout will remain the same as in recent years with a noise curfew of 11pm, although those who are still wide awake can enjoy films and a funfair in one part of the arena that stays open until the early hours.

Dawn is one of three festival organisers who work alongside an additional trio of directors. She has been involved with V festival for the past nine years.

Dawn, aged 42, said: "Our directors are also all-year concert promoters in their own right so they have their fingers on the pulse. They know what's hot – that probably why we have such an eclectic line up at V.

"We have a much younger audience than festivals like Reading and Leeds so they're all up for giving bands a try. That's the beauty of V."

Dawn says her best V Festivals have always involved her favourite acts with a slightly rockier edge.

"Anything that's got Foo Fighters and Ian Brown on the bill is great," she added. "I love the rocky stuff so my best festival was in 2003 or 2004 when Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing."
