Hong Kong Delight, Walsall

Hong Kong Delight, which is situated on the Broadway in Walsall, and serves up both Cantonese and English food, more than matched the favourable reports.

It is not very often I choose the takeaway option, so I was unsure what to go for when having food in this week.

The main choices seemed to be either Italian, Indian or Chinese and as a fan of all these I sought the advice of friends for a recommendation.

There were favourable reports on Hong Kong Delight, which is situated on the Broadway in Walsall, and serves up both Cantonese and English food.

After picking up a menu I was impressed enough with the variety of dishes available and decided to sample some of the foods on offer.

Buying for three people there was a lot of debate about what we should eat, as there are set meals to cater for groups along with individual dishes.

I was tempted by yuk sung for starters and sweet and sour chicken for the main course. But with the wide selection available, it was almost impossible to choose.

We agreed it would be best to have a mix of the different dishes and a set meal would be the best option. Not knowing how big the portions would be we were undecided whether to go for the meal advertised for three people or be a bit greedy and have the four-person meal.

We decided to stick with the three-person set meal and I ordered over the phone with the agreement to collect at a certain time for my own convenience. There is a home delivery service which costs £1 for anyone within a three-mile radius. The set meal for three people included six mini spring rolls along with barbecued chicken wings with chilli, salt and pepper. The main dishes were sweet and sour pork, prawn chop souey, szechuan beef and chicken with pineapple.

As part of the deal there were two trays of yung chow fried rice and prawn crackers which came to a total of £21. The food was ready on my arrival and the portions appeared quite big. The meals kept warm in the containers and it was clear they were freshly cooked.

Deciding to try a bit of each dish we thoroughly enjoyed all the meals but my personal favourite was the chicken and pineapple. Although I liked the szechuan beef it was a little hotter than I prefer, while the sweet and sour chicken and prawn chop suey was also appetising.

Overall I was quite impressed and recommendations I received from others were more than justified.
