Edward Rutland, Stourbridge

Although a popular nightspot in Stourbridge among residents and visitors, the Edward Rutland takes on a totally different style during the day.

A quintessential modern town centre pub, the calming and spacious atmosphere offers a stark contrast to the bustling High Street where it is located.

Opting to visit at lunchtime, I was not surprised to find the pub was packed with diners looking for a light snack or, in many cases, a full meal.

The menu was impressive to say the least, and offered a range of options, along with a selection of vegetarian dishes, to whet the appetite.

Lighter bites include sandwiches, salads and small pasta dishes.

However after missing out on breakfast I decided to opt for something a little more substantial.

My colleague, who joined me on the visit, also decided on a full meal rather than a snack. Given the number of options it took a while to decide - with burgers, curry dishes and pasta creations among the hearty dishes available.

I opted for a classic sausage and mash washed down with a glass of cola.

Liking the sound of the meal, my colleague decided on the same.

The food itself was well-cooked, but turned out to be fairly standard food in the end with no garnish or frills.

However, the amount of food on the plate was excellent with three sausages placed on a large pile of mash along with peas on the side.

For the amount the two dishes cost, nearly a tenner, you could perhaps be forgiven for expecting just a little bit more.

This, though, was the only downside of the visit with the atmosphere of the pub comfortable and the surroundings nice with plenty of space so you didn't feel crammed in while eating.

Service was also very good with the food not taking long to prepare and the staff were friendly.

The pub is certainly popular with people in the town in the day as during the hour we spent there a steady stream of diners continued to come in. All-in-all it was a pleasant lunch-time and the pub is certainly worth a visit if you are in Stourbridge.
