Broadway Chippy, Walsall
After spotting Broadway Chippy in Walsall on my frequent journeys in and out of the town centre, I decided to pay a visit this week.
When hunger strikes and time is of the essence, there is nothing more convenient than stopping off at a fish and chip shop. After spotting Broadway Chippy in Walsall on my frequent journeys in and out of the town centre, I decided to pay a visit this week.
Set back off the busy Broadway, among a selection of other shops, we were quite comfortably able to find a parking space.
There was quite a queue inside, which is always a positive sign, but was a little bit worrying seeing as I was in a rush to buy. However, with a good number of staff behind the counter I was able to order within minutes.
Although a keen fan of chip shops, I can find some meals just too greasy.
So I was a little bit apprehensive when looking at the menu, although there was a wide choice, and the food in the display cabinets was definitely very tempting. I eventually settled on the kebab burger and chips which was very well-priced at £1.95 and pleasantly found it wasn't too greasy at all.
The serving was very generous and was served warm which is a real bugbear of mine when the kebab is already cold before I finish my meal. The chips were nice and golden and there wasn't one I felt I needed to leave because it wasn't edible, which can sometimes be the case.
My friends both went for the more traditional choice of mini fish and chips and they were pleased to have just selected the smaller dish when they saw the size. It was again a more than satisfactory portion priced at £1.70 and given the rush we were in was just about what was needed.
It was agreed no meal would be complete without a pot of mushy peas which we suitably shared between us to put the topping on our dinner.
I was impressed with the size of the meals, with even the smaller portions being the same size as standard trays I have had in some places.
I thought the price of £6.05 for three meals was more than reasonable and the chippy was in a convenient location for anyone driving past and wanting to pop in.
