And that theme continues once you go inside where the interior is smart with exposed oak beams, low ceilings and open fires.

But as well as the abundance of charm and character, the pub serves great food all day, every day.

It is apparently doing a brisk trade thanks to its prime position on the A41 Holyhead Road, just outside Wolverhampton.

The pub also has a big car park to boot.

Even on a Wednesday evening in the first week of the new year there were dozens of people enjoying a meal.

But it didn't take long to find a table, especially with a bit of help from the friendly bar staff.

The whole pub is non-smoking which makes it a great place to eat and you will not be disappointed with the fairly priced, filling and tasty food.

Despite being a chain pub for Vintage Inns, the menu offers a good selection of freshly prepared, home-cooked food, from grilled steaks to seafood dishes and pub classics like toad in the hole and meat pie.

The menu also has a few more unusual options as well as a very limited but tempting daily specials blackboard, which my friend chose from.

He started with king prawns in a garlic and herb butter sauce on ciabatta bread, £4.95, before tucking into the daily special of duck and cherry sauce, £8.95, with vegetables and chips for his main meal.

He said that both were delicious and filling and he would happily visit the venue again.

I had an excellent and plump prime Scottish beef burger with cheese and bacon which cost £7.25. The burger was topped with rocket salad and tomato and there was a serving of chips on the side.

But best of all was a mouthwatering, warm and rich chocolate brownie with soft dairy ice cream which cost £3.75.

We were well looked after throughout the meal by helpful and happy staff.

The bill came to £30 including a pint of cask ale each.

The Foam Pudding also offers Sunday roasts and freshly cut sandwiches.

There is a particularly good wine selection as well as the usual range of cask ales, draft lager, cider, spirits and soft drinks.

Food is served until 10pm every day except Sunday, when the kitchen closes at 9.30pm.
