Local 'comminity' matters in Tory candidate's misspelt poster
The first PR gaffe of the General Election has been spotted in Walsall and it's by someone who should really know better.
Eagle-eyed tweeter @Trumpton_Orange saw the banner for Sue Arnold in Walsall South with a rather unfortunate literal – failing to spell the word community correctly.
The poster read: "Local girl, local champion, local comminity." It is rather embarrassing for Mrs Arnold who runs her own PR and advertising consultancy Haselour House Media.
But she has seen the funny side and said: "I've sent the designer of the banner back to school – via the Specsavers store in Park Street, Walsall.
"Talk about crossing the t's, and in this case, dotting the i's.
"Perhaps, subconsciously he was trying to show I'm determined in this election campaign to put an 'I' into the 'You' of community.
"As someone born and bred in Walsall, no one is keener to ensure that the good people of Walsall South get the MP they deserve – one who looks out for them.
"A spelling error it may be but I don't intend to make the mistake of slipping up and not giving 110 per cent if given the opportunity to represent my home town constituency."
Mrs Arnold grew up on the Beechdale estate in Walsall and helped set up the the Walsall Advertiser in 1981 before taking charge of the Central Independent Newspapersgroup.
The 54-year-old is also the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire and a councillor in Lichfield. But Mrs Arnold should not fear too much. Five years ago in South Staffordshire fellow Tory candidate Gavin Williamson printed 36,000 leaflets to distribute to his constituents to introduce himself ahead of the General Election but his name was spelt wrong as Gavin WilliMASON.
He went on to comfortably win the seat and become Personal Parliamentary Secretary to David Cameron.
