Mark Vaz this week started his fundraising campaign.

The 31-year-old from Penkridge did the first 26 mile leg from his home village to Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

He then followed this by running through Stafford on Wednesday.

He will continue running throughout the summer in aid of Tommy's pregnancy charity and Katharine House Hospice.

The feat will also see him enter the record books.

His wife Tammy suffered her seventh miscarriage this year, and Mark said he wanted to thank Tommy's for the support they had given her during pregnancy.

He has set a target of raising £90,000 which will be split between the two charities. Yesterday, the total stood at just under £2,000.

The window cleaner said: "I'm pretty confident I'm going to do it.

"I know that sounds trite, but I'm pretty sure I can do that if I get the right publicity."

Mark will be pounding the streets of Newport on July 17, followed by Market Drayton the following day.

On August 10 he will be running through Telford, and on August 20 he will be in Bridgnorth, and then Ironbridge the next day.

"My 88th run will be in Shrewsbury because that is my home town, and I will then finish in Balloch in Scotland because that is where we got married."

Mark said he was determined to complete the challenge, even if he picked up injuries along the way.

"I will do it with a broken leg if I have to," he said.

He plans to follow it up with a walk from Land's End to John O'Groats next year.

Mark has received good luck messages from Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell and television presenter Ross King in his challenge.
