More than 6,000 people took to the fields at Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport, near Bridgnorth, over the Easter Weekend which played host to the 2015 Wings and Wheels Festival.

Visitors were treated to a number of history lessons throughout the weekend with demonstrations held on how some of the country's oldest vehicles were used.

This year's festival was the sixth in its history following previous events held in recent years.

The event saw visitors roll back the years to take to the wheel of more than a hundred Second World War planes and an array of classic cars from yesteryear.

As well as the cars and army aircraft there were vintage fire engines and steam engines. There was also large scale model aeroplane shows throughout the two days.

The 'Bomber Boys' also made a special visit doing regular Bomber Briefing re-enactments in the Air Scouts building. Air Atlantique also offered pleasure flights during the Easter event.

Event organiser Vaughan Meers told the Express & Star the event was a huge success.

"We've had a fabulous turnout, it's been brilliant," he said.

"We are very pleased indeed with the way its gone. We get a great reception every year and this year was no exception.

"It's amazing how people from far and wide come along but I'm glad we can keep them entertained.

"We now can't wait for next year's event and will look to make it even bigger and better.

"The weather was really good.

Most of the funds raised go towards the restoration and preservation of the exhibits at the Tettenhall Transport Heritage Museum charity.

During the event more than £6,000 was raised for charity Wolverhampton Museum of Transport, the air cadets and air scouts.

"The museum is in a real state of repair as things stand so the money will no doubt go towards that." Mr Meers added.
