Caitlin Tsang's hair reached down to her waist but she had eight inches cut off on Saturday.

She is donating the hair to Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

And the money raised through sponsorship - around £200 - will go towards paying for an ecological trip she is going on with her school to Cuba.

Caitlin said: "I was happy to have my hair cut off to help me raise money. "I've raised about £200.

"And the hair is going to The Little Princess Trust as well which is good.

"My hair looks really different but I'll get used to it."

While over in Cuba with nine classmates and two teachers from Kingsmead School in Cannock, Caitlin, who is from Heath Hayes, will be scuba diving and carrying out coral reef assessments.

They are working with the charity Operation Wallacea and the University of Havana to carry out data collection on the coral reef which will play a key role in its conservation.

To go on the trip, the teenager needs to raise £2,500. So far the group of students heading over to Cuba have done a sponsored bike ride.

Four students took part in the 12-hour ride at Burntwood Leisure Centre.

They are also planning to do a bag pack at a supermarket to raise even more cash, as well as raffles and silent auctions.

Cailin's mother Alison said: "I like her new hair cut. It looks really nice and I think she likes it as well."

Caitlin had her hair cut at Eden Hair in Heath Hayes.

The £2,500 she is aiming towards will pay for flights, PADI training, accommodation and insurance.
