Rotary club donates £1k to Staffordshire missing people charity
A cheque for £1,000 has been handed over to a charity that helps locate missing people across Staffordshire.
Staffordshire Search and Rescue (SSART) received the cash from the Rotary Club of Burntwood.
The money will be used to help fund a much-needed trailer for the life-saving service to transport their water rescue boat and mountain terrain bikes to missing person incidents.
SSART is a team of 65 volunteers with specialist skills to locate and recover missing children and vulnerable adults across the Staffordshire.
Deteriorating mental ill health, dementia related conditions and substance misuse are common amongst missing people, and increase the risk of harm and vulnerability while missing. Injured walkers and mountain bikers have also been rescued by the skilled searchers.
Rachel Good from SSART said: "We are absolutely delighted with this donation and can't thank the rotary club enough.
"Our members assist the emergency services day and night. This money will buy vital rescue equipment to help vulnerable missing children and adults in the local area."
Andy McMillan, president of Burntwood Rotary, added: "SSART do excellent work assisting the emergency services round-the-clock, on a purely voluntary basis and Burntwood Rotary Club is delighted to be able to support their efforts."
