Cockerel has lots to crow about after farmer rescues him from busy road
A farmer from Staffordshire came to the rescue of an escaped cockerel which was spotted running loose on a busy road.
Ray Bower, of Lower Drayton Farm, Penkridge, was called out to capture the chicken after police received reports it was roaming on the A449.
Following capture by Mr Bower, the cockerel was made resident of the Lower Drayton family farm attraction.
Mr Bower said: "This is one lucky cockerel.
"Not only did it manage to survive crossing the hugely busy A449 but it somehow avoided getting on the M6 and dodged becoming dinner for the local foxes - but sooner or later his luck would have run out.
"He'll now become a much-loved addition to the menagerie at the family farm attraction and spend his days looking after our pretty hens, so he should be a happy boy from now on."
Staff at Housing Plus in Action Gate alerted the RSPCA to the bird, which had spent three days within the group's grounds.
But after no avail it was suggested Mr Bower be contacted.
Housing Plus spokesman Clare Chick said: "As a housing association, we're here to provide good quality homes in and around South Staffordshire.
"And we're very happy that this particular local resident now has an excellent home at Lower Drayton Farm."
The farm is based near Junction 13 of the M6.
It is based on 600 acres of land and offers bed and breakfast along with a host of activities including paintballing and clay pigeon shooting.
Lower Drayton Farm's family fun farm will open its gates for the 2015 season during the Easter school holidays.
