Amateur photographer snaps up beautiful sunset
When Ruth Duncombe and her husband were taking a post-Christmas walk up Barr Beacon, she managed to catch one of the last beautiful sunsets of the year on camera.
Mrs Duncombe, from Pheasey, Great Barr, snapped the image on her brand new compact camera she got as a Christmas present.
The 53-year-old learning support coordinator found a passion for photography after going on walks with her husband.
She said: "Me and my husband go out for walks regularly and I always take my camera with me.
"It has never been anything serious for me, I just enjoy taking photos.
"We decided to go for a walk up Barr Beacon late afternoon on December 29 as the weather was so beautiful.
"We started walking around three o'clock and when we reached the top at four o'clock we witnessed this really beautiful sunset.
"I love to take photos of flowers and the weather, so this was the perfect opportunity.
"We decided to stay where we were, we managed to get a number of really fantastic pictures."
Mrs Duncombe submitted her image to the Express & Star's Star Witness after finding other images in the paper that caught her eye.
"We have the paper delivered and I always look at the Star Witness photos.
"Sharing my photos with others is something that I have always wanted to do.
"I was looking at all of these beautiful photos and I really loved my sunset image and decided on impulse to send it in, I am so glad I did.
"My husband is a really keen photographer, he has the big cameras and tripods but does share his work.
"I always say to him that photography is like music and if you are proud of it you should share it with others.
"I am hoping that by him seeing that I am getting a good response by sharing my photo it might encourage him to do that same thing."
