Most talked about articles of 2014

The ability to allow readers to comment on stories online has provoked endless debates on our website, even generating stories in their own right due to diverging opinions.

By far the most talked about story of this year was the cockroach-ridden Wolverhampton takeaway, branded 'one of the worst seen in the city' by health inspectors. While some of you feared about the quality of the food, the majority of the comments were outraged that Mohammed Rafiq, the owner of Express Diner in Lichfield Street, would be sentenced to a two year jail term at most if convicted.

You were similarly outraged at the 100 pupils sent home from The Coseley School for wearing trainers rather than shoes. Those of you who weren't angered by the fact that that pupils were being sent home from school for wearing trainers, applauded the school for taking a strict stance on uniform policy, ensuring a very lively and lengthy debate online!

In October our reporter Kirsty Bosley interviewed Stinson Hunter - otherwise known as The Paedophile Hunter - and we ran a poll asking whether or not you supported the clandestine methods he uses to catch paedophiles. Whilst 96 per cent of you supported his methods, the online debate was much more balanced than the poll results would suggest, with lots of well argued points being raised.

Footwear again proved a popular talking point when crowds queued outside Wolverhampton's Foot Locker to get their hands on the re-released Nike Huarache trainers. This time though the points put forward were almost solely one-sided, reflecting the view of TheThing444 who posted: "What is the world coming to?"

Again the majority of posts on the planned transformation of the Mander Centre in a revamp agreed, with most people being sceptical about a transformation taking place, arguing that they wouldn't begin celebrating until the plans were signed.
