The third Santa Dash attracted youngsters, adults and even two dogs.

They all wore Santa suits and hats and tackled a circular 1.2k route around the village.

Andy Richards, vice chairman of Penkridge and District Round Table who organised the event, said: "We had about 44 Santas taking part which is a few more than last year.

"The weather was slightly better this year which probably helped.

"The Santa Dash marks the start of Christmas really."

The runners set off on Sunday from The Star Inn and ended up back at the pub where the finish line was located.

It only took 15 minutes for the final runner to cross the finish line.

Mr Richardson added: "We had adults and youngsters taking part. It's all about the fun of Christmas.

"It's not a race. It's for the pure enjoyment. Everyone got dressed up."

Penkridge and District Round Table is launching their annual Santa Sleigh Runs around the village and surrounding areas this coming Sunday (7).

Each year the Santa Dash and sleigh runs manages to raise between £2,000 and £3,000 for Penkridge and District Round Table.

The money is then pumped back into good causes in the village and surrounding areas throughout the year.

Mr Richardson added: "We'll be using the money we raise on the Peace Memorial Hall where we meet.

"It always needs sprucing up.

"And the cash will be spent on other local causes such as paying for Christmas lunches at an old people's home."

On December 7, Santa and his sleigh will be in Wheaton Aston and Lapley.

His final run will be on December 18 in the the Teddesley area of Penkridge.
