Youngsters take charge of classroom in Willenhall school 'Takeover Day'
Having control of the classroom may be rule number one for any teacher but that basic principle was thrown out at a school in Willenhall.
Short Heath Junior School ran its first 'Takeover Day' which saw year five and six pupils take charge of the classroom for a day.
And the head teacher and deputy head were not exempt in the initiative run by the Children's Commissioner for England.
The number of applicants was so high that another Takeover Day has been scheduled.
Assistant Headteacher Sarah Harris said: "We've had so many applicants, it's been a very positive experience. So many pupils have shown a desire to become teachers, we were overwhelmed.
"We were not expecting quite so many".
The idea behind Takeover Day is to allow children to work alongside adults for the day and become involved in decision-making.
