City's first sushi restaurant opens in Wolverhampton
An authentic taste of Japanese cuisine has arrived in Wolverhampton with the opening of the city's first sushi restaurant.
ISO Sushi has opened on Tettenhall Road, Chapel Ash, at the site of the former Rumbles takeaway.
Bosses have spent four months working on a plush £40,000 refurbishment of the building, with a large rear extension allowing the restaurant to serve up to 40 customers at full capacity.
On opening night, head chef Dorjee Sherpa served up traditional sushi classics like Katsu Bento, Nigiri and sumptuous handrolls along with hot dishes including Yakisoba and Teriyaki.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Mike Heap, who cut the ribbon before the first meals were served. Over the course of the weekend, more than 100 customers were welcomed through the doors.
Director Yusuf Ahmed said ISO Sushi would provide a style of food that restaurant goers in the city had been calling out for.
"In the build-up to opening we had a lot of interest from people wanting to able to get good quality sushi in the city," said the 22 year old.
"Sushi is often considered a high-end food, but it is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. In the past people from Wolverhampton would have to go to Birmingham to eat it. Now we are providing the best sushi made by highly experienced chefs right in the heart of the city."
The Wolverhampton-based firm now has four restaurants in the UK, with another one due to open in London before the end of the year.
Mr Ahmed added: "Opening up in Wolverhampton was a very important step for us. Now we want to keep growing and become as big as other sushi restaurants that have tasted success in this country."
The restaurant is open 11am to 11pm from Monday to Friday, with a two-hour daily closure from 3pm to 5pm.
It is open from 1pm to 10pm on Sunday. Takeaway is also available.
