Thomas sings for fees
It was music to the ears of Thomas Winfield when he heard he had won a place at one of the country's best drama schools.
And the ambitious 18-year-old hit the right note again when it came to finding the fees to attend the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. After many hours toiling behind the bar of a pub to earn as much money as possible he was still a worrying £2,000 short of the required total.
So – with the help of seven loyal friends – he relied on his talent to meet the bill by organising and performing in his own musical evening. Thomas from from Birchwood Road, Penn, Wolverhampton, also received help from his uncle Wolverhampton-born actor Paul David-Gough – currently appearing on TV as Emmerdale village bobby Pc Stone and previously seen for seven years on Coronation Street – and his partner, actress Gemma Wardle.
Tom's production was called Anthem and drew an audience of around 150 to St John's In The Square Church in Wolverhampton.
It was a musical production, made up of a number of songs and scenes from a range of popular musicals.
The evening raised £1500.
