Families turned out for the fifth annual community event, which is organised by the city's local policing network and council.

And joining in on the fun were characters from In The Night Garden, Buzz Lightyear, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Fireman Sam - as well as Wolverhampton's very own Stormtrooper Nikki Dearn.

There was also entertainment from Dudley's singing sensation Beth Sherburn who performed Joker, the new single she recorded with rapper Lil Wayne.

In addition to the live music, there were also bouncy castles, paint ball runs, market stalls for families to enjoy.

Cash raised from day will go to Wolverhampton Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Newbridge and Wolverhampton Parachute Regiment.

Last year, £1,500 went towards good causes with organisers looking to match that total this year.

Pc Joe Trusselle, one of the organisers of the fun day, said: "It went very well and we were amazed by how many people we had come to West Park. We anticipate around 5,000 visited and their support is very much appreciated.

"Some of the comments have been very positive and people were thanking us for providing a day out which didn't break the bank."

There were also Second World War military vehicles on display, with veterans sharing their experiences with visitors.

And youngsters were able to sign up for a sport initiative called Sportivate where they can get one free lesson a week for six weeks in one of 10 sports.

Pc Truselle added: "It's activities like that help us engage with the community and building trust and confidence to show that the police are here to help.

"We have had visitors come and get advice from us while we have been dotted about the park and I think it's perfect opportunity for us to provide them with information and support in a more relaxed environment."
