Wolves veteran 'Bobby' Mason's FA Cup winners medal to go under the hammer
Memorabilla from one of Wolves' most successful-ever players is set to go under the hammer.
Robert 'Bobby' Mason has put a number of his prized possessions from his playing days up for grabs at an auction later this week.
Bobby, originally from Tipton and who now lives in Stoke, was part of the 1958 and 1959 league winning sides, and in total scored 44 times in 146 appearances.
He also scored in every round of the 1960 FA Cup, before being dropped for the final in favour of Barry Stobart.
And now Bobby, aged 78, is putting up for sale memorabilia from his successful time at the club, including his 1954 FA Youth Cup runners-up plaque, a nine-carat gold FA Cup winners medal, two charity shield medals from 1958 and 1959, and a miniature silver trophy from the 1957/58 league win.
Keith Hartwell is a valuer with Mullock's Auctions, which is selling off the items in the sale on Thursday.
He said: "Wolves stuff is collected such a lot, and Wolves' football ground has got a fantastic museum that actually buys from us, so they might be there on the day.
"All the items have come from Bobby himself – he's still well, and I met him and his wife at his house when collecting the stuff from him. Being a Tipton lad he had some great stories from the time he was playing.
"When they played at Molineux he would just bus it in, sitting with the fans. On the way back, if they had been playing Birmingham or Villa, he would have been with all of their fans.
"Can you imagine Rooney doing that?"
The sale, at Ludlow Racecourse, is taking place on Thursday from 11am, and there is a viewing day on tomorrow from 10am.
