Perton Carnival chairman Bob Bakhra said the attendance was double what organisers had been expecting.

The event was held at Perton Middle School for the first time, and included a funfair and classic car show.

The float parade was led by carnival princess Chelsea Dudley, and her aide Phoebe Spencer (AGES UNKNOWN), who were driven in an open-topped Morris Minor, and also included members of the local Guide and Brownie packs.

The 1st Perton Scout Group made a giant plane which was paraded in the procession, while South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson helped out by manning the bottle stall.

Mr Bakhra said another star attraction was the magician who put on three shows throughout the day.

"It was our biggest and best carnival yet," he said.

"It was superb, everything went really well.

"It is too early to say for certain, but I would expect we have raised more than £1,500 which will go to charities in the Perton community."
