Amateur football team calls for support in Anfield bid

An amateur football team raising cash in memory of a seven-year-old girl who died of leukaemia is calling on residents to log on and support their bid to play at Anfield.

Hawkins Sports FC, based in Hednesford, are through to the final four of the contest run by Barclays.

The two teams with the most 'likes' on the competition Facebook page will play each other at the famous ground on May 24.

Votes close at midnight tonight and the players have sent out a rallying cry for support.

Among the players are Ashley Perry, head of sport at Kingsmead High School in Hednesford, who is raising cash for Leukaemia Research UK in memory of his cousin Ava-Mae Titley, who died last year.

He is entering the Iron Man UK endurance competition in Bolton in June - and decided to got his team mates on board to boost his fundraising total, which has already passed £1,000.

He said: "It would be great to play at Anfield so we need everyone to get behind us."
