Rare 1929 telephones expected to ring up £3,000 at auction

Two rare vintage telephones could raise up to £3,000 when they go under the hammer later this month.

The 200 Series models in a pyramid shape, considered a design classic, were introduced by the General Post Office in 1929 and continued in service well into the 1960s

The two up for auction at Lichfield date from the mid-1950s.

The phones were generally black but those wealthy enough could apply or a coloured model in ivory, lacquer red or jade green at substantially increased rental costs, making them too expensive for most. As a result, very few survive outside museums.

They are being sold by Richard Winterton Auctioneers of Lichfield on April 30, and estimated to fetch £1,200-1,500 each.
