Now she is preparing to take to the stage in the lead role in a production of Sister Act being performed at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre next month.

The comedy was first released as a hugely popular film in 1992 and opened in London's West End in 2009. Withthe lead role of Deloris having been originally played by US superstar Whoopi Goldberg, Mrs Coe knows she has some huge shoes to fill.

"It's an amazing part," said Mrs Coe, who is from Wolverhampton. "It's also a big part," she added. "The character definitely holds the whole thing together and pretty much doesn't leave the stage.

Mother-of-two Mrs Coe grew up in Finchfield and now lives in Tettenhall with her husband David. She discovered her passion for theatre while studying at Thomas Telford School and in 2010 she made it to the final 20 in Over the Rainbow, a show designed to find a new Dorothy for the stage version of The Wizard of Oz.

Since then she has played roles in various productions, including a Motown panto version of Peter Pan, in which she performed alongside Louie Spence and David Hasselhoff.

She and the other performers have been rehearsing for Sister Act since December. She said: "The show will appeal to everybody. It's a great family show. There's something in it for everyone."

The West Bromwich Operatic Society production of Sister Act will play at the Grand Theatre, on Lichfield Street, from May 13 to 17. For tickets, call 01902 429212.
