Rainbow captured over Dudley Hippodrome features in Star Witness gallery

At the end of the rainbow there's supposed to be a pot of gold – but in this case it's a landmark theatre.

In the sunshine after the storm, this image was captured on camera by Black Country artist Graham Colbourne.

The scene was captured over Castle Hill in Dudley as rain gave walkers and shoppers a reprieve. It shows the rainbow over the Dudley Hippodrome, which is under threat of demolition despite a campaign to keep it open.

The image was captured by Express & Star reader Mr Colbourne who sent it in for others' enjoyment via Star Witness.

The service has been set up on our website, to keep readers up to date with everything near them. Mr Colbourne, of Milking Bank, Dudley, said: "I was waiting for a taxi in Castle Hill having come back from holiday on the Isle of Wight. And I just looked up and saw the rainbow coming out of the Hippodrome. I thought with all the fuss about the Hippodrome that would make a nice picture."

Campaigners who have been fighting for the future of Dudley Hippodrome itself would hope that the message of the famous Wizard of Oz ballad – Over the Rainbow – might soon ring true.

In the Academy Award-winning song, Judy Garland sang that the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true.

Those involved in the long-running saga to spare the former theatre from demolition will say they have done nearly everything but 'wish upon a star' for it to be retained.

This idyllic picture and the thoughts it provokes in the lyrics of Garland's performance, may well be a far cry from Dudley town centre on an average weekday, but campaigners will be hoping to leave the clouds far behind them in their battle to preserve the historic building for generations to come.
