[gallery] They're the stunning shots that prove that when it comes to photography, the Midlands really has got talent.

These images are just some of the scores of landscapes, nature shots and breaking news images that have been sent to our new Star Witness showcase since its launch in October.

We've been overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of images we've received.

The standard of submissions has been outstanding, whether captured on a smartphone, tablet or professional DSLR camera.

Readers have answered our call for their personal portraits of our region at work, rest and play.

Whether it's an impromptu snap of a rainbow, or a perfectly composed view of the region's rolling hills, you've been out taking pictures to share with our army of thousands of web users.

One eagle-eyed reader even snapped the moment two men were arrested for stealing poppy tins in Birmingham.

The pair were later jailed and the picture attracted national interest.

Express &?Star Social Media Editor Mike Woods said: "These pictures are really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the breadth of material that we are now receiving.

"But there's a lot more of West Midlands life that hasn't yet been captured.

"We're keen to see your portraits of the interesting characters that make our region what it is.

"Whether it's the market trader who's been working the same stall for 30 years, or the lollipop lady who's a hero to all those she helps, we want to showcase them."

This week we handed out our first £100 cheque to a Star Witness Winner.

Paul Lichfield, of Kingswinford, won praise in the newsroom for his atmospheric snap of Summerhill. Paul said: "I didn't realise I had won until I was sat reading the paper and saw my picture. I thought 'that scene looks familiar. Oh! Its mine'.

"I've never won anything before, except £10 on the lottery, so I'm really chuffed."

We want you to be inspired by Paul's success and get behind the lens to get snapping – and send us your pictures.

It could be anything from a local band playing their first gig in a small pub, to a picture your friend took of you with the Prime Minister.

Mike added: "It's great to see Star Witness really taking off. We will be showcasing the best pictures in the paper in the coming months, and longer term we will be introducing a mobile app to make it even easier for readers to share pictures." Over to you!
