Bring back proper spare wheels
In what possible sense do these skinny, low-speed spare wheels supplied with modern cars represent progress? writes Peter Rhodes.

In ye olden days if you got a puncture you put on the spare and drove as far and as fast as you deemed sensible before dropping off the flat tyre at Kwik-Fit.
These days, once you have fitted the skinny spare, the handling is appalling and you are limited to 50mph and darkly warned not to drive more than an (unspecified) short distance.
And thus, a crisis is instantly turned into a drama. It can prejudice your insurance. It can wreck your whole day.
My vote goes to the manufacturer who starts putting proper spare wheels in cars once again.
