Cheers! Pub group Punch's £1m revamps will serve up 50 jobs

Pub group Punch is investing £1 million into Walsall serving up 50 jobs for Christmas.

The Staffordshire-based group is pumping money into a makeover of five of its pubs in Walsall and another in Cannock ready for the festive season.

All within 10 miles of each other, The Shire Oak on Lichfield Road, The Watering Trough on Ablewell Street, The Farmer's Boy on Barns Lane, Rushall, The Bowman on Myatt Avenue, Aldridge, and The Hen House on Eskrett Street, in Hednesford, are all being given a new lease of life with refurbished premises. In a further boost, a total of 50 jobs have been created across the venues.

The Shire Oak was the first to re-open its doors last Thursday following a £350,00 joint investment by Punch and local businessmen Kevin Brook and David Singh.

The Farmer's Boy, which is on Barns Lane, Rushall

The rejuvenated pub has been transformed into a welcoming place for local people to eat and drink. Weekly activities will include a quiz night every Sunday from 8pm and live sports broadcasts.

Partner Kevin Brook, said: "The Shire Oak was in need of some TLC and our customers, old and new, are really impressed with the result of the refurbishment."

"The £1million investment demonstrates our faith and commitment to the area and we are confident that the outstanding partners we have on board at each venue will continue to drive the businesses forward and establish them as the focal point of their local community. The remaining four venues will done before Christmas."
