The new home in Kent Road, Halesowen, is due for completion in September next year.

The £5 million, three-storey facility will provide high-quality residential care as well as up to 32 beds and specialist care facilities designated for people with dementia.

The 30,580 sq ft property will include en-suite bedrooms for people aged over 55-years-old.

There will also be six two-bedroom, semi-detached independent living bungalows as part of the scheme.

The Kent Road scheme marks the first time that Black Country Housing Group has developed a new residential care home, but the leading social business has a long track record of providing care across the Black Country.

In February 2015 it took over the management of care home New Bradley Hall in Kingswinford and currently manages six independent living schemes for people aged over 55, plus two assisted living homes for people with physical and learning disabilities.

Deputy Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif, attended a sod-cutting ceremony along with Christine Cooper from LNT Carehome Developments, the company building the home and the bungalows.

Janette Beckett, director of care and social business at BCHG said: "Our investment in this new residential care home represents BCHG's commitment to build on our existing care offer to help enhance the quality of life for local people living in care.

"In Dudley we expect the number of people aged over 65 to increase by over 7,000 in the next ten years so the need for a new build, high-quality care-home has never been greater. The property will also be unique because it will provide dedicated accommodation and expert care to support people living with dementia."

Mrs Cooper said: "We are really excited to be working with BCHG on this project and can't wait to get into construction."
