Company bosses have decided to shut the Merry Hill shop for good on December 30.

They claim the move is because the shop is under-performing.

Any closure would put 193 jobs at the Sainsbury's at risk.

The author of the petition said: "Thousands upon thousands of people shop there every week and it is hard to see how this store cannot be making a profit.

"How can closing the store make any economic sense?"

Sainsbury's The store has been based at the Dudley shopping centre since 1989, four years after it opened in 1985.
