Wayne Jones said he wanted to calm any fears about the future of the site indoor market and that he was certain it would be staying put.

The building was put up for sale in May by the family firm, who have owned it for generations.

Estate agents said there has already been strong interest in the building from market operators.

It is believed it could sell for as much as £1 million.

Mr Jones said: "I want to reassure traders and customers that I believe there is a good future, a strong future for the market. It is a focal point of the town.

"There is no intention that it will be anything other than a market."
