150 jobs on way at Cannock business park
A total of 150 new jobs will be created when a business park in Cannock is expanded, it was revealed today.
At least one firm is in talks to move into two plots at the Kingswood Lakeside Business Park.
Council bosses say work on the £650,000 expansion will start on the site in the coming weeks.
Two new plots will be created and roads will be revamped at the park, which is next to the M6 Toll Road and is already home to leading national businesses.
Staffordshire County Council spokesman Tom Hobbins today said at least one business is interested in taking over the plots.
But he said their identity could not be revealed while negotiations were taking place.
Development of the park was first given the go-ahead in 2002 on the site of a former opencast coal mine.
In recent years environmental firm Veolia built its three-storey headquarters for a workforce of 400 and logistics company APC constructed a £15 million distribution centre which employs 420 people.
But negotiations to develop a further two plots would lead to 150 new jobs being created. At a meeting on next Wednesday the county council's cabinet will be asked to approve the work.
Cannock Chase Council leader George Adamson said it was 'brilliant news'.
"We have been calling for the site to be developed for a long time and this will be badly needed in Cannock," he said.
"It is very welcome as the unemployment level in the district is still quite high and this is a large number of jobs being created."
