Dunelm will move on to a Cannock retail park in spring, creating 80 jobs, it was announced today.

The home furnishings giant is to close its store in High Green and relocate to Linkway Retail Park.

It will take over a 20,000sq ft unit being rebuilt on the plot of the former Focus DIY store.

Work is under way to rebuild and extend one of the vacant units at the park off the A5 at Longford Island.

Account manager Naomi Lane said: "We can confirm that Dunelm will be opening a Cannock store in Spring 2014. The store will employ up to 80 members of temporary and permanent staff."

However, the news has not gone down well with some councillors who say it is a blow for the town centre.

Cannock South councillor Maureen Freeman said: "It is a shame that the High Green store is closing because it is very popular and it means there will be yet another empty unit in the town. Having said that, I am extremely pleased that the new store will create up to 80 jobs."
