Co-op sees sales boost for group

Sales were up by eight per cent for the Midlands Co-operative Society in the first half of its financial year.

The Lichfield-based business, which is set to merge with the Anglia Co-operative Society, made a trading profit of £13.6 million, which was £2.7m down on last year, on its sales of £386.7m.

Food sales were up 9.2 per cent.

The society also made a capital investment of £24m with five new food stores, including one in Chasetown, and two new funeral homes opening.
