Poundland soars to £880m sales record

Poundland has today revealed another set of record-breaking figures as it targets 1,000 stores in the UK.

The Willenhall-based retail giant opened 69 new stores last year – creating 1,700 new jobs – giving it 458 branches nationwide serving 4.5 million customers a week.

Sales in the year to the end of March soared 15 per cent to £880 million and profits were up 14.6 per cent to £323.4 million.

Chief executive Jim McCarthy said: "This has been a year of tremendous progress for Poundland. In the UK, Poundland is powering ahead."

"I'm confident that over time Poundland will have over 1,000 stores across the UK," he added. The company has its headquarters in Willenhall and main distribution site in Bilston.
