Npower is talking to staff about relocating many of them from the company's base in High Street, Kingswinford.

No official date has yet been announced for the office's closure, but it is expected to be vacated by the end of this year, with many of the workers leaving in September.

The decision to close the base, which stations 284 workers under the company's parent arm RWE IT, was announced last year by the company as part of a review carried out by parent company RWE.

Workers are expected to be relocated to the firm's other IT call centres, including the firm's headquarters in Worcester.

Alex Madden, spokesman for Npower, said: "We have relocated a number of employees from Kingswinford who will be moving to other offices within the Midlands."

The company has not yet announced whether there will be redundancies.

Dudley South MP Chris Kelly said he wanted to be kept informed of the plans, adding: "We obviously have concerns for the local economy and it's important I know what's going on."
