Bilston manufacturer helps shelve Chinese Wall

Excalibur Manufacturing Solutions Limited, based in Bilston, has just secured a 15,600 piece contract to supply a key element of shelving for a major high street retailer.

This has been for an assembly previously supplied from China.

MD and owner Richard Gilbert commented: "This has been a major coup for Excalibur and is fantastic encouragement that we can claim work back previously lost to the Far East.

"The particular assembly would involve shipping a lot of fresh air due to its geometry, so it makes environmental sense that it is a local UK company that manufactures and supplies.

"It plays to our strength of punching, forming, spot welding and powder coating thin gauge sheet metal."

He carries on to say: "It has been a particularly tough trading period over the last few months and this will boost our work load.

"Nonetheless, as you can imagine in order to win this contract margins are tight and all working methods and any process waste is being closely examined.

"Working our Amada EM2510NT press with its automated sheet loader 'lights out' will be a particularly important part of the programme. However there are other more labour intensive elements that will require manning up and is likely to result in some recruitment."

Excalibur, who reached their 10 year anniversary in April, are also manufacturers of the iBin, a novel parcel bin concept for home deliveries as launched at last year's gadget show.
