Sir Mervyn King visits construction firm Shaylor Group in Aldridge
Bank of England Governor Sir Mervyn King was given a first hand view of the difficulties facing the construction industry when he visited Black Country-based contractors Shaylor Group.
As one of the regional contacts of the Bank of England, Shaylor were selected to sit down with the Governor to gain first hand feedback regarding the construction industry climate from a locally based company with a national presence.
Sir Mervyn visited Shaylor Group's Aldridge offices accompanied by members of the West Midlands Agency as part of a two day tour of the West Midlands, his third annual tour of the region.
Sir Mervyn met employees and discussed their perspectives on the current condition of the construction industry. He was then joined by members of the Shaylor board of directors in a roundtable discussion on how the economic conditions are affecting the business and its clients.
Shaylor Group chief executive Stephen Shaylor said: "Our visit from Sir Mervyn King has been a valuable experience for all of us at Shaylor Group. It was great to see the Governor taking an interest in a medium-sized family run business such as ours and the construction industry as a whole. We enjoyed a fruitful discussion and a positive exchange of views."
Shaylor Group was formed in 1969 and is £50m second generation family-owned businesswith offices in Aldridge, Birmingham, central London and the South West.
