Brownhills Twente Express fleet grows

Brownhills-based logistics company Twente Express has announced major expansion plans with a £500,000 investment in additions to its truck and trailer fleet.

Following a successful 2012, where revenues increased by 16 per cent, the company has made the investment in double decker mega-trailers and low-ride tractors units in order to keep up with increasing demand on their daily express freight services to and from the Benelux countries – Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Twente Express managing director Trevor Paul said: "After significant growth for us in 2012, the aim is for us to continue that trend even further.

"We are positive that 2013 will see further growth in our export revenues and the £500,000 investment puts us in good stead to achieve this."

The company operates daily express overnight freight services to and from Holland and Belgium, with much of its new business coming from Midlands-based manufacturers with needs to export into these overseas markets.

Security is always a priority when transporting goods and for this reason solid box trailers have been chosen as opposed to curtain siders and all trailers have been fitted with the latest GPS tracking technology that incorporates computerised rear door locking mechanisms.

Twente's new extra long "mega-trailer" fleet will also enable them to safely double stack palletised freight and accordingly, more consignments will be carried on each overseas journey – resulting in a more commercial and competitive approach when calculating a new pricing structure for 2013.

In addition, Twente says a new 'pallet tariff' is proving to be a very competitive alternative to customers who regularly ship quarter, half and full palletised shipments to the Benelux.

Throughout Twente's history, the company says its strength has been in maintaining in-house control of its overnight trunking system to its Benelux depots in Brussels, Dordrecht and Enschede – seen as vital to the success of both the 24 and 48-hour door-to-door services.

Mr Paul added: "We are proud of the reputation we have built for our strict in-house controls and the way in which we monitor our day to day operations.

"It is for this reason that we continue to invest in the company and have avoided the lower cost alternative of using cheaper Eastern European hauliers to move our customer's consignments across the channel."
