Forty jobs are being axed at Wolverhampton loans specialist Birmingham Midshires along with 90 others at Lloyds TSB and Halifax Bank of Scotland sites in Birmingham.

The cuts take effect by 2012.

They are part of 4,500 job losses across the Lloyds TSB operation after the banking giant absorbed Birmingham Midshires and HBOS last year.

The takeover left the company with duplicate roles in its computer operations which it no longer needs now it works from one shared system.

And today bosses said there were plans to merge IT operations at the Wolverhampton base of Birmingham Midshires with Lloyds TSB's other Midlands operations including an office in Brindleyplace, Birmingham.

Around 1,400 people work at Birmingham Midshires in Pendeford, which is Wolverhampton's biggest private sector employer and provides specialist loans and savings.

Spokeswoman Sarah Swailes said: "There are 40 role reductions at Wolverhampton and 90 in Birmingham. It is the group IT operations and back office roles. The move will happen in three phases from now until 2012."
