Afternoon roads were brought to a standstill when two vast steel storage tanks set off on the 30-mile journey from Kingswinford to their permanent home at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull factory site.

The pair of tanks, each capable of holding 94,000 litres, have been made by Kingswinford-based steel manufacturer Pressvess for JLR's Solihull paint shop.

The two carbon steel storage tanks, together with a smaller stainless tank, will form part of the Jaguar Land Rover waste paint treatment facility which is undergoing a multi-million pound upgrade to further improve JLR's commitment to the environment.

Manufacture

The prestigious contract to design, manufacture and install the storage tanks was awarded to Pressvess earlier in the year by JLR's paint distribution and management specialist Morecheck.

The steel vessels, which took eight weeks and more than a thousand man-hours to manufacture, received the final thumbs up from Jaguar Land Rover's environmental principal engineer Russell Kent ready for last Tuesday's planned dispatch.

A leading UK pressure vessel and storage silo manufacturer, Pressvess has two fabrication facilities in Kingswinford, West Midlands and employs over 40 staff.

Notable past projects include the manufacture of a full-size steel replica of a Boeing 777 for the Fire Training Facility at Edinburgh Airport and storage silos for Drax Power Station.
