Pelsall-based Symphony Automation has been working with Sainsbury's carbon reduction team for the last seven years to roll out its lighting control system across the supermarket giant's extensive estate.

The long-running project has allowed Symphony, based in Hall Lane, to prove its ability to deliver on commitments and provide excellent customer service.

The company has now won a prestigious contract to provide lighting control for the £19 million heritage refurbishment project at The Piece Hall, a 1779 Grade I Listed building in the centre of Halifax.

Originally built to support the trading of 'pieces' of cloth, it has been at the heart of commercial, civic, and cultural life in the town for over 230 years.

Work is currently taking place to refurbish and conserve the hall, creating a 21st century heritage visitor attraction; with a high quality interpretation and learning centre, a new east extension and a redesigned courtyard.

Lighting will be a key aspect of the project with designs by award winning BuroHappold featuring light and water displays to rival the best in Europe. The detailed lighting control system was drawn up by another Black Country business, Urban Jungle Energy & Engineering.

Lighting will be used extensively throughout the project to enhance the visitor experience, highlight the historic building and also play a large part in the events that will take place once the building is reopened later this year.

Dave Rheman, owner of Symphony Automation, said: "Automating and controlling lighting levels is a simple solution which can save up to 25 per cent on annual lighting costs.

"Lighting can be controlled to adjust to a building's usage in terms of both reducing energy costs and enhancing mood levels.

"Winning the Piece Hall contract is a real success for our business, but is just one of many high profile projects currently in the pipeline. We are experiencing fantastic growth with our order book for 2016 already outperforming last year."
