RGK Wheelchairs, which hand-makes bespoke wheelchairs in Burntwood, won the 'Highly Commended' award in the 'Best Product/Service Innovation' category for its latest chair, the TIGA FX. The company also won the 'Best Marketing Campaign' for the chair's launch earlier in the year. The TIGA FX has been carefully designed to revolutionise the way people travel. It's standard procedure for airlines to put all wheelchairs into the baggage hold of a plane, which can result in chairs being damaged and lost - leaving passengers in very anxious situations, and in worst cases, putting them off air travel for life.

But the TIGA FX has been developed to eliminate stress and make travel hassle free. The wheelchair folds into a briefcase shape which can easily fit into the overhead compartment of an aeroplane giving passengers peace of mind. It also fits into the boot of a car, giving families more freedom to travel.

On winning the awards, RGK's commercial director Russel Simms, commented: "This is a true honour for all of us at RGK. We are exceptionally delighted that our continued efforts to help wheelchair users live more independent lives has been recognised."

The British Healthcare Awards 2014 were held on Thursday 11th December at The Grange St Paul Hotel in London, presented by BBC Breakfast's Bill Turnbull.
