IT firm on cloud nine after Cannock move

The recent recession has proved good news for a fast-growing IT firm that has just moved to Cannock. Headed by a former Wolverhampton Grammar School pupil who founded his first enterprise as a 14 year-old, Mellow Marsh Software now boasts 1,200 clients.

Lee Marsh, owner of Mellow Marsh Software, has posted annual profits ever since his business was founded in 2001 and believes his recent move to Heritage Park is generating unprecedented levels of growth, along with the unlikely additional factor of a tough economic climate.

Computer whiz-kid Lee, aged 27, offers a full range of IT solutions for businesses of all sizes, from IT support and website design to cloud services.

A recent move from Wolverhampton to Cannock has facilitated a massive growth for Mellow Marsh, which has just employed its 10th person and recorded its 1,200 retained customer.

And far from the recession hampering progression, Lee thinks he may have been lost without it: "I have thought about the recession and I sometimes wonder where we'd be if it hadn't come along. We have managed to grow year-on-year so with that logic, would we be 10 times better off if the economy was actually booming?

"It's a hard one to answer but we might well be worse off. We have found that there are less capital purchases and more investment in software to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Search engine optimisation is an example of this."

Lee said that businesses might not have five-figure sums of money to invest in servers, but might find a fully managed service from Mellow Marsh more attractive – without a sizable initial outlay.

The majority of Lee's clients are locally based small to medium sized operations, although some larger companies are also on his books, as far afield as France and Germany.

To now boast 1,200 clients – 13 years after his first business dalliance from his bedroom desk – is impressive work, but Lee insists there is no magic formula.

"I think you've just got to be as approachable as possible and let people know that you are here to help.

"I know that businesses place a huge amount of trust in us, because we are responsible for the smooth running of their business and if we fail them, they fail their customers and clients.

"I've always got great satisfaction from being able to help in this way."
