New lease of life for Stourbridge Sealine site

New jobs are on the way as a growing fibreglass manufacturing firm moves out of its old home in Stourbridge and into one of the former Sealine boat factories in Kidderminster.

The 50,000 sq factory has been empty since Sealine collapsed last year but now Quantum Mouldings is set to move in over the next few months.

And Quantum boss Peter Wooldrige says his firm will be looking to recruit some of Sealine's skilled workers.

Growing workloads have spurred the move from Quantum's home of 30 years in Enville Street, Stourbridge, and the firm is adding another 10 workers to its 25-strong workforce.

And Mr Wooldridge is hoping to double the company's workforce if turnover continues to grow at its current rate.

"We did £1.6 million of business last year and are aiming for £2m this year. Our intention is to keep growing at around 25 per cent a year, hitting £5 million in five years. It's ambitious but there's no harm in aiming high."

The company makes glass fibre car trailers and hard tops for pick-up trucks but is also moving into new markets, making housings for wind turbines as well as parts for the new Agility Global electric motorbike.

After a tough time in the recession which saw the company halve in size, it has built back up and is now busier than ever. Owner and director Peter Wooldridge said: "We have been restricted on our current site for some time by lack of space. The new premises will enable us to purchase new machinery and improve production processes that will make us more efficient."

MP for Wyre Forest Mark Garnier said: "This is great news for manufacturing in the region."
