Residents evacuated as bomb disposal unit called to Staffordshire allotments
Residents were evacuated after a military device was found at a South Staffordshire allotment.
High Hill, in Essington, was closed by police on Monday evening and homeowners evacuated as a precautionary measure.
A bomb disposal team was called.
The device was a non-explosive tank shell and was safely removed by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
A spokesperson from, South Staffordshire Police said: "Officers are currently at High Hill in Essington after a suspected military shell was found at an allotment.
"Residents of the surrounding area have been evacuated until the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team have confirmed the item is safe."
The road has since been reopened.
