Teenager arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Wednesbury stabbing
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 17-year-old was stabbed in broad daylight.
The victim has been left in a critical condition after the attack in Market Place, Wednesbury this afternoon.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the victim had suffered a single stab wound to the neck and was taken to hospital.
Business owner Debbie Moran had rushed to the injured teenager's aid when she saw him staggering about.
Another 17-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Ms Moran, who runs Time4Lunch in Market Place, said: "Some fight had occurred. All I know there was gangs of kids running around screaming.
"I saw him (the victim) collapsed in the doorway of Aladdins shop. I ran over. He was with another young lad.
"We both got towelling and held it on the wound to stop the bleeding until the ambulance arrived.
"You just don't expect it to happen. You hear about it all the time. But when you see it, it is not nice. It is shocking."
One woman, another business owner, added: "It was horrendous. It was just chaos. There was so many people. Someone shouted someone had been stabbed."
Wenesbury North councillor Elaine Costigan said: "I'm very surprised and shocked to be honest. I'm so thankful for Time4Lunch for saving this young man's life."
West Midlands Police spokesman Deb Edmonds said: "A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another teenager was stabbed in the neck in Market Place, Wednesbury.
"The 17-year-old has been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
"The area has been cordoned off while forensic examinations are conducted.
"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should call police on 101."
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing at 12.06pm in Market Place.
"A teenage male had sustained a single stab wound to the neck and had a slightly reduced level of consciousness.
"One ambulance attended together with a paramedic officer and the Midland Air Ambulance from Cosford.
"The male was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by land ambulance."
People in the area also reported seeing the Midland Air Ambulance land nearby.
