Walsall address searched after counter terrorism officers arrest man
An address in Walsall was being searched today after a 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.
The man was arrested this morning from an address in London on suspicion of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
He is being questioned by officers from West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at a police station in the London.
Police say the arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led and there was no threat to the public’s safety.
An address in London is subject of an on-going search as well as the address in Walsall.
The man was arrested under PACE legislation, meaning officers have a maximum of 36 hours before charging, releasing, bailing or applying to a court for a warrant of further detention.
