The start of a year is the time many of us want to shed a few pounds. The effects of seasonal excesses, the new clothes we treated ourselves to are still feeling a little tight.

Some people will set out on an ambitious exercise regime, others might put themselves on a strict diet, and these are all well worth doing. But some of us still struggle to maintain a healthy weight.

There is another way that many people probably haven't explored yet. A weight loss injection that can only be prescribed by pharmacists. And it's one of many treatments that can now be delivered to your door by a new clinic service by supermarket giant Morrisons.

Morrisons has partnered with Phlo Clinic to launch the new service, and it's one of many treatments being offered by the online service.

For patients looking for a sustainable weight-loss treatment, the service's clinicians can prescribe a Mounjaro KwikPen, a new once-weekly injectable medication that can help you lose weight.

It uses an ingredient called tirzepatide to stimulate two hormonal receptors in your body, and these help to regulate blood sugar levels, making you feel less hungry, while slowing down the emptying of your stomach to keep you feeling full for longer.

Meanwhile the second hormone regulates energy balance in brain and fat cells, enhancing the effect of suppressing your appetite and improving sugar control.

The KwikPen costs £129 for the first order, and comes pre-filled with four doses, lasting four weeks.

Patients use the KwikPen once a week, on the same day, under the skin of their stomach, thigh or upper arm.

The medication is designed as a long-term treatment and can be prescribed for up to two years. Clinicians say users should expect to see weight loss results from around six months with continuous use, and maximum weight loss generally around the 12 to 18-month mark.

Studies have shown that by week 72 people can achieve a 15% weight loss with 5mg, 19.5% weight loss with 10mg and 20.9% weight loss with 15mg.

And reviews from people who have used the pen through Phlo Clinic endorse the studies, with one female saying: "I have lost two stone so far and my body shape has changed so much.

"I was terrified of needles and have been since a child. But when you’re in control it’s so easy. My first time injecting it I was so scared, but it doesn’t hurt believe me."

Another user, a male, said: "The service is easy to use and the weekly updates and tips are really supportive.

"I have lost two stone in 11 weeks and my clothes fit me much better which is motivating me for the long journey to my goal weight.

"I was a bit nervous to inject myself, but the needle is so small and I didn’t feel a thing. It’s such an easy, painless process."

Anyone ordering the KwikPen is asked to complete a survey initially, so their specific needs can be assessed.

After the questionnaire is completed, prescribing pharmacists at Morrisons Clinic will review and individually assess the treatment suitability, before dispensing it using Royal Mail's Tracked 24 service.
