Jones set for Wolves recall

Wolves midfielder Dave Jones is set to win the battle for Karl Henry's place and finally return for Wolves at Sheffield Wednesday as Nigel Quashie misses out.

Midfielder Jones faces a final test after a rigorous workout on the patella tendon injury to his left knee.

The £1million summer signing had been vying with Quashie for the vacant central midfield spot vacated by Henry, who starts a two-match ban.

But the former Albion midfielder requires more time to regain full fitness after a chest infection.

Jones said: "I did a lot of work on it (the knee), just testing it out and I'm going to try it out with the team.

"As of now, I'm fit, but it depends on how I get through training. Hopefully I'll be OK, because it feels a lot better than it was."

Quashie faces a waiting game in his recovery from the infection, although he has trained.

He said: "I think I'm going to need five days to two weeks' full training. The doctor has made it clear I need that, because he's concerned about me coming back and breaking down.

"My pulse has been up as well and the doctor wanted to get that down to a certain level, before I can start up again.

"I've spoken to the manager and the physios and they feel it's better to get the lactic acid out of my legs and try to get back into training gradually, because I was struggling a bit."

Quashie admits he's frustrated not being able to take the anchorman role, but backed Jones to successfully step in.

Stephen Ward also trained with a view to being fit for the trip to Hillsborough but the game was expected to come too soon for winger Matt Jarvis, who is still doubtful with his infected foot and knee injury.

Striker Chris Iwelumo is fit, while McCarthy is to keep Stephen Gleeson in the travelling party as cover for his depleted central midfield.

Tickets are still available for the game, with 2,400 tickets out of Wolves' 3,800 allocation already sold.
