The hallmarked silver cigarette box, which was presented to Wright by the Anglo-American Sporting Club in August 1968, is expected to sell for between £1,000 and £1,500.

Graham Budd Auctions will host the sale in London on Tuesday, November 8, with the cigarette box up for sale alongside a gilt-metal medallion.

The cigarette box is inscribed: "Presented by the Anglo-American Sporting Club to Billy Wright CBE former captain of England and Wolverhampton Wanderers for his contribution to soccer. Hotel Piccadilly, Manchester, Tuesday 20th August 1968."

Wright made 541 appearances for Wolves and won 105 caps for England, winning the First Division championship with the Molineux men in 1954, 1958 and 1959, as well as the FA Cup in 1949.

He became the first footballer in the world to win 100 international caps, and captained England a record 90 times.

A bronze statue of Billy Wright outside Molineux was unveiled in 1996.
